There hasn't been any major scientific advancement in physics since the 1960s. We have the same power sources, same transportation systems, the Saturn V is still the most powerful rocket built. The only real improvement has been in computing and the internet, but that is not scientific its just good engineering. There has been nothing equivalent to discovering nuclear power, and all new theories since then have provided little to no technological benefit. Except for the field of biology (cloning, and medicine has certainly improved), no scientific field has had a revolution since the 60s. To be honest, the US deserves to lose its claim on being the forefront of scientific advancement. I think that belongs to the Swiss now because of CERN. The early 20th century was riddled with scientific advancement, by comparison the early 21st Century feels stalled.

I still don't see there being any good reason for DirectX 10, let alone 11. Just about every game is targeted towards DirectX 9, since that's what the 360 supports, and I don't see developers spending the extra time to pretty up games for new hardware that very few people will have.
