I think the argument being pushed on us by Apple is that a restricted SDK helps cut down on the number of bad apps out there. Of course, there's no magic way to prevent people from building crappy apps, but this SDK does make it hard (and sometimes impossible) to make many good ones. I'm just put off by the fact that the brothers and sisters are also cousins.
Two reasons: One, it is so much easier to get grant money for this project from NSF and you have to play to them if you want funding. Second, The two projects have fundamentally different ideologies. This project's goal is to turn waste products that are already in abundance into usable products, whereas growing hemp, harvesting, breaking down, refining, etc. is a move to change US agriculture and production which is not in our power. I like the ideology though in theory.
